Offer #288 20minuten bashes Blumen Maarsen

Today, on a grey Wednesday - 20 November 2019 - an article was published in 20minuten that casts Blumen Maarsen in a bad light. The title is "Chefin filmt Angestellte und stellt Bilder live online".

Maarsen-Livecam ging am 21.11.2019 viral (HIntergrund lesen) The live broadcast on our website has been a feature since 2003. At the beginning, the broadcast was still technologically challenging; it was a project of Christiaan's, the father of Sandra (in the 20minuten article called "the boss") and Stefan's, webmaster and board member (until today). The statement that employees are forced to have themselves filmed is wrong. Blumen Maarsen considers itself a family whose members drink coffee together, do leisure activities together, some even travel together, and yes, who work a lot, sometimes from 6 in the morning until late at night. This is bonding the members together. In fact, the live camera is the employees' joint project. Franziska, for example, took care of the installation. And what happens if an employee doesn't feel like being broadcast live? A rag flies over the camera. It was a wet rag once, which damaged the camera. Ever since, only dry rags have been used. Why a live camera? We want to show our shop and our craft in a virtual shop just like in a real shop. We film ourselves, not the customers. As a small business, you need creative ideas to survive in the Internet trade. Over-regulation and unfair journalism can destroy many things. You may wonder why the employees have to give their written consent for the livestream within the framework of the family relationship. The reason is that the trade union demanded this a few years ago, when a union's agent showed up unannounced, kept disturbing the sale (there was a lot going on during Advent), and made her demands. We then interrupted the live broadcast for about a month until the paperwork was done. In addition to the paperwork, we did a retreat with the team to see if we were doing the right thing with the live broadcast. The result was a unanimous 'yes' - obtained under no external pressure at all. If you want to convince yourself of the Maarsen family and the fair conditions in our team, have a cup of coffee with us. From now on, our break room - which is definitely not going to win a beauty contest - is open to the public, with or without invitation; operating the coffee machine is self-explanatory. Usually there is a cake on the table that someone from the team brought along voluntarily. Dear reader, we enjoy our live camera, don't take it away from us. Do not hesitate to write us your opinion: info@maarsen.ch. We are also interested in your view on the journalistic quality of 20minuten and questions about wrong and correct behaviour of journalists; where does reporting stop and bashing begin? PS: Tomorrow, a journalistically adequate article about our webcam will be published in the Berner Zeitung.
